About Elaine

Elaine Coetzee was born and raised in South Africa during the country’s most tumultuous periods and was fortunate enough to live one of history’s most celebrated liberation struggles. Today, she still lives in South Africa – a stone’s throw away from her childhood home – where she’s raising two little South Africans of her own. She is interested in exploring the darker side of the human psyche and the heinous acts that some people commit against their fellow travelers. The settings for her short stories and novels are often non-specific, focusing instead on the characters – messed up people and their motivation for ‘doing what they do’ as they make their way through this human experience we call life.
